At your first appointment, you will have an assessment to help determine what help you might need which will typically be a 40-45 minute consultation.During your initial assessment, your physiotherapist will ask a series of questions about your condition. This will be followed by a detailed physical examination involving some movements and tests that highlight the problem and potential causes of your condition.
These findings will then be discussed with you to formulate a personalised treatment plan and a short treatment in the remaining time available. Our physiotherapists are trained to recognise when physiotherapy is not suitable and can refer you for further investigations, either privately or via your GP. It is important to us that you understand your condition before we start treatment and so please feel comfortable asking questions about your diagnosis and treatment plan.
On attending the initial assessment or treatment, it is recommended that you wear loose clothing, shorts/sleeveless tops. The physiotherapist may ask you to remove clothing but you will be helped to maintain modesty, privacy and of course be given the chance to refuse.
All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they consider one is required. The chaperone may be a family member or friend, but on occasions a formal chaperone may be preferred. Patients are advised to ask for a chaperone if required, at the time of booking an appointment.
