Shockwave Therapy

What Is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy is an evidence-based treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to target injured tendons and ligaments. These sound waves are delivered through the skin to stimulate blood flow, cell regeneration, and the body’s natural healing process.

Originally used to break down kidney stones, shockwaves are now widely used in musculoskeletal medicine to treat chronic soft tissue injuries. The treatment helps break down scar tissue, reduce pain, and support proper healing.

Up to 80% of patients report significant symptom relief after just three sessions—many feel improvement after the first treatment.

Conditions Shockwave Therapy Can Help

Shockwave Therapy is especially effective for chronic tendon and ligament conditions, including:

  • Plantar fasciitis / heel pain
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Patellar tendinopathy (jumper’s knee)
  • Hamstring tendinopathy
  • Adductor tendinopathy
  • Gluteal tendinopathy / Greater trochanteric pain syndrome
  • Shoulder tendinopathies (including rotator cuff and calcific tendinitis)
  • Tennis elbow / Golfer’s elbow
  • Frozen shoulder
  • De Quervain’s tenosynovitis

What Are the Benefits of Shockwave Therapy?

  • Pain relief – Many patients notice reduced pain within

             1–3 sessions

  • Faster healing – Stimulates the body's natural repair process
  • Non-invasive – A safe, outpatient alternative to surgery
  • Works alongside physiotherapy – Can enhance recovery when used with other treatments

Shockwave Therapy is suitable for many people struggling with chronic tendon pain. If you're unsure whether it's right for your condition, our physiotherapists can assess and advise you on the best treatment options.
